Description

This Absinthe spoon was made for the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. The original spoon is one of the rarest Absinthe spoons you can get. The reproduction of this Absinthe spoon gives you the opportunity to use one of the most original Absinthe accessories of the past for the preparation of your glass of Absinthe. The spoon is silver-plated and comes in a nice black velvet case.

INFO: As the Paris 1889 spoon is silver-plated, it will tarnish over time. This is a natural process. You can simply clean the spoon with silver polish (the best way) or (grandma's secret) with toothpaste. This will give back the initial shining.

The inauguration of the Eiffel Tower:

On Sunday 31 March 1889, Gustave Eiffel showed some of the famous personalities of the day the tallest tower in the world. The tower has 1,710 steps which were climbed by feet, on top of the tower the French flag was unfurled to the sound of a 21-gun salute. Gustave Eiffel proudly announced: "The French flag is the only one with a 300-metre pole." Some days later on May 15th, the official inauguration of the Eiffel Tower took place, together with the opening day of the Exposition Universelle (EXPO). The Eiffel Tower remained the worlds' tallest building till 1930 when the Chrysler building was built in New York.

Traditional French ritual using the Paris 1889 Absinthe spoon:

In the following video you can see how you serve Absinthe the traditional French way. You need an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon, sugar cubes and ice cold water for this ritual. This is how it works: You place the Absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass, put a sugar cube on top and slowly add water. The Absinthe in the glass blends with the water and magically louches from green to an opalescent white color. Santé, your sugared Absinthe is prepared!
