Typically they have an alcohol content between 15 and 30%. The traditional way of making Sloe Gin is to infuse Gin with the berries. Sugar is required to ensure the sloe juices are extracted from the fruit. Monkey 47 Sloe Gin is distilled by the famous Black Forest Distillery and uses the original Monkey 47 Gin as a base. Prunus spinosa (blackthorn, or sloe) is a species of plums native to Europe and western Asia. The common name "blackthorn" is due to the thorny nature of the shrub, and its very dark bark.
