Description

Unfortunately the last bottles have been sold! Brevans A. Crowley was an Absinthe for the gourmet. It was a barrel-aged Absinthe which was distilled in Switzerland in 2011. To support the final vintage character of this Absinthe a good portion of aged Cognac was added to the distillate before letting it rest for the next 3 1/2 years. Only 418 bottles existed of this limited edition. The taste was bombastic, mild without any alcoholic sharpness and of course woody, smoky because of the ageing. This fine Absinthe was drank in a Cognac glass, to release its full flavor. You either sipped it neat or added a bit of ice-cold water. The label for this Absinthe shows an original painting of A. Crowley from 1931. The womans name is Gertrud Howe, a German from Berlin. Needless to say that Crowley had a relationship with here.

Aleister Crowley loved Absinthe:

A. Crowley (1875-1947) was a British poet, occultist and mountaineer. He rejected fundamentalist Christian faith and called himself the „Antichrist“. Crowley gained widespread popularity during his lifetime, being a recreational drug experimenter, bisexual and an individualist social critic. As a result, he was denounced in the popular press as "the wickedest man in the world". Crowley loved as well Absinthe, actually so much that he dedicated an essay to the drink: “Absinthe, the green goddess”. He wrote it in 1918 in New Orleans at the Old Absinthe Bar. This bar still exists today. In 2002, a BBC poll ranked him as the seventy-third greatest Briton of all time. Posthumous popularity we would say :-).
