Description

This vintage bottle of Gempp Pernod Absinthe can be dated to 1880-1913. It is in perfect condition, labels, cork, wax sealing and filling level are extremely well preserved. Gempp Pernod Absinthe was distilled in Lunel, a city in southern France, close to Marseille. The brand was sold at a premium, as it is distilled with wine alcohol, which was also used as a unique selling proposition (see photos in our gallery) back in the day.

Historical facts about Gempp Pernod Absinthe:

Gustave Charles Gempp married Louise Pernod, daughter of the famous Absinthe distiller Edouard Pernod (one of the two sons of Henri-Louis Pernod). Learning from his father-in-law, Gustave was able to develop and improve his Absinthe distillation skills. Gempp Absinthe was widely known for its premium quality. In 1911 they had some legal issues with their brand name, as Pernod Fils from Pontarlier tried to exclusively use the name "Pernod" for their Absinthe. But as you can see on the letter in our gallery, Pernod Fils from Pontarlier lost the trial and Gempp-Pernod could continue to market their Absinthe as an authentic "Pernod" Absinthe.
