Description

Absinthe Perle d'Absinthe is a French Absinthe from the city of Pontarlier, situated close to the Swiss border. It is made by the traditional Francois Guy distillery. Every year Pontarlier hosts the Absinthe fair Absinthiades. A mixed jury of professionals and devoted Absintheurs tastes and awards the best (French) Absinthe. For this festivity the distillery Guy produces every year a limited edition Absinthe. For the year 2017 Absinthe Perle d'Absinthe was made, a barrel-aged Absinthe of a blend of one Absinthe which aged for two years and another one which just matured for one year. To balance out the smoky-wooden flavor some mint was added to the recipe. The result is a potent Absinthe with wooden notes but the characteristic fresh notes of anise and fennel (and some mint) are still present. Like for all the previous limited editions the label was designed by the local artist Marcel Mille.

Pontarlier, a city in the light of Absinthe

Scene of the annual Absinthe fair Absinthiades is the city of Pontarlier. With its 17.000 inhabitants it is a rather calm city. Only during the Tour de France it catches some attention, as the cyclists traditionally pass the city on one of their stages. But it was not all the time like this. During the turn of the century Pontarlier was the Absinthe capital in the world. Market leader "Pernod" had a big factory in Pontarlier, like many other competitors. It was the fertile ground and the beneficial mountain climate that made Pontarlier so attractive for the distilleries. Wormwood cultivation was widespread and the city's distilleries satisfied the world's appetite for the Green Fairy. One of the many manufacturers was the family Guy. They founded their venture in 1890 and until now the family-owned distillery produces some of the finest Absinthes available.
