Absinthe Whisky Base Celebration Edition 2022

Absinthe Whisky Base Celebration Edition 2022 is a limited edition for this year's Absinthe festival in Limburg. It is a joint project of the hosts of the festival: ALANDIA Spirits, SaarWhisky, Aixsinthe and Wolfgang Klotz. What makes this Absinthe special is that it is distilled with a whisky base instead of a neutral grain or wine alcohol base. Not a surprise with SaarWhisky as host :-) The whisky base gives the Absinthe a malty undertone.

For the distillation we use wormwood from Pontarlier and Sweden. Both are known for their high quality (keyword Grön Opal Absinthe). Besides other traditional ingredients such as green anise and fennel, the additional special feature of this Absinthe is the composition of the coloring macerate. This is added to the Absinthe after distillation to give it its natural green color. This colorful essence is macerated with coloring herbs and vanilla beans. The flavor influence is very perceptible. You can smell the vanilla already in the glass and of course taste it in the louched Absinthe. Overall, this Absinthe is something very special. Only 90 bottles exist.

SaarWhisky and the Moonshine distillery

The "Saarland" is a region in the southwest of Germany. It is characterized by mining and its beautiful natural landscapes. This region is as well the original home of SaarWhisky Distillery. Since 2015, SaarWhisky has specialized in so-called "Single Cask Bottlings". These are whisky bottlings from only one single cask, which are offered in small batches. They have the same alcoholic strength in the bottle as originally in the whisky barrel (cask strength) and come without the addition of colorants or chill filtration. For this, SaarWhisky imports casks from Scotland and Ireland, which they personally select from hundreds of casks.

In recent years, they have also expanded their range to include extraordinary Absinthes, pastis and gin, which they distill in small batches and bottle with unusual bottle designs. The distillery has recently moved to Limburg to the premises of an old brewery. SaarWhisky, however, remains as an already well-known name for the products. But the distillery now bears the name Moonshine Distillery.
