Description

Hamlet, the tragedy by William Shakespeare, recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his uncle Claudius for murdering his father. The gravedigger scene is well known, where Hamlet thinks about the commonness of death and the vanity of life, while looking in the face of an unearthed skull. With its unique skull bottle Hamlet Absinthe takes reference to this famous play. It is a strong Absinthe with 69% alc. by vol (138 proof) and contains grand wormwood (artemisia absinthium). The coloration of Absinthe Hamlet Classic Green is plant-based, meaning that its green color derives from chlorophyll. Despite its strength, Hamlet Classic Green has a surprisingly smooth taste. This is achieved by adding a bit of cinnamon and vanilla to the recipe.

We recommend to drink Absinthe Hamlet Classic Green with one part Absinthe, two parts ice-cold water and one sugar cube. Ideally in a skull glass, which you can also buy here at our store. Enjoy and don't be scared :)!

Why do some Absinthes have a bright green color?

Absinthe traditionally is of green color. That is why we also call the drink the "Green Fairy". But if an Absinthe is bright green, you can be sure, that it is artificially colored. You can only achieve a bright green color with coloration. If you use plant-based coloration, you will initially get a dark green as well, but over time this color can lose its intensity changing to a lighter yellow-green, sometimes even amber color. Why? Because sunlight dissolves chlorophyll and therefore as well, the green color can vanish. That is the reason why many green Absinthes are bottled in dark bottles. If you have a clear glass bottle, like we use for Hamlet Classic Green Absinthe, it is important to store the bottle in a dark place. It should not be placed in direct sunlight. But, and this is important, even if the Absinthe loses its initial green color, its quality is not affected. It is a natural process that actually shows you, that you have bought the traditional, classic Green Fairy.

This was my first taste of absinthe, and it was a surprise in more ways than one. I was expecting something very potent and used two sugar cubes for my first glass. But then I tasted it and was astounded by how good it tastes! In fact, it tastes so good that it actually disguised how strong it is and I drank it a bit too fast. Went straight to my head! Much better with only one sugar cube, sitting and slowly sipping while working on the computer. Highly recommend! (Posted on 10/17/2023)

As a first time absinthe this was awesome. I was used to bitter liquers like Jagermeister so I enjoyed the flavor. It almost had a mint taste that my friends described. I would definitly get this again but I would like to try more that this site has to offer. It gave me an awesome coherent drunkeness, and I didnt experience anything wierd that many people had warned me about with hallucinations and such. I totally recomend this! (Posted on 12/15/2022)
More than expected! Review by Wolfgang

I bought this absinthe because of the skull bottle. yesterday i tried it and must say, it´s better than expected! The taste is fresh, not too overpowering on anise, in the finish you have sweetnes that reminds of vanilla, the absinthe is somehow creamy. It has a soft louche, if you use icecold water the louche is more intense. Overall it is a decent absinthe, of course not the most complex but you can easily drink it. And yes, the bottle looks awesome... (Posted on 9/29/2022)

This is how Absinthe is conventionally made. I am looking for wormwood content and am not familiar really with Absinthe. Right away, this seems to be of much better quality than Absente, which is now sold with wormwood in New York here. This time, I realized it was concentrated and water is mandatory. I tried with sugar, but I didn't like it. I'm drinking it with 50/50 orange juice and water, got it for the cool skull bottle, although it's the size of a baby's head, it's clearly articulated and an adult's skull, so it isn't creepy, just looks cool. I would like a larger, regular sized skull definitely would be great. Not to sure how heavy duty the cork is, may need to put a better one in, we will see. Also, there is a regular seam down the middle of the face from when the bottle was made. (Posted on 9/29/2022)
