Absinthe Eichelberger Brute 80 is a Blanche from Germany. It is bottled almost undiluted from the alembic, this explains the high alcoholic volume of 80%. When water is added, the crystal clear Absinthe louches to an attractive white with blue highlights. The louche is very dense due to the high alcohol by volume. if you take a sip you will experience a very fresh Absinthe with some citrusy notes. A smooth earthy aroma is in the background. Anise, fennel and wormwood are of course present as well. But they are rather blending with the citrusy notes, than dominating the complete impression of this Absinthe. Overall this Eichelberger Blanche is a refreshing Absinthe with a good kick.

The history of the Eichelberger Absinthe distillery:

A great-grandfather of the Eichelberger family, Eduard Heinrich Nötzel, lived from 1800 to 1874 in Danzig. He assumed ownership of the wood wholesale trade business of his father but expanded the business very soon. An advertisement in an old newspaper shows, that he started to offer different spirits and essences, including an „Extracte d'Absinthe“. In his tavern "Zum Elefanten" ("To the Elephant") his specialties were offered. His son, Otto Luis Nötzel, continued the flourishing business. Unfortunately he died young and his son was too young to manage the company. Therefore the business was shut down around 1900. Due to the two world wars the history of the family heritage was almost forgotten. Until in 1997 the Wild family started again with the production of Absinthe in the Eichelberger distillery!

Smooth and refreshing
The Eichelbergers have long been one of my favorite lines of absinthe. They're made in small batches in the Bavarian forest. All of them are very good but this is my favorite. It's very smooth and refreshing with a great louche. At 80% alcohol you might expect a pronounced alcohol bite and an overpowering flavor, but you'd be wrong. This one goes down very easily. It's my favorite blanche of all the ones available on the market.
