This is the story of our Absinthe trip to the Absinthiades, the Absinthe fair taking place in Pontarlier, France. We did this trip in 2005. In the following, you can read some info about this trip to the former capital of the Absinthe. Enjoy reading!
Absinthe Trip to Pontarlier
We write the year 2005… On 02.10.2005 the fifth Absinthiades took place in Pontarlier. Of course we put some extra fuel in our German Sportscar and headed south to the lovely city of Pontarlier. After a huge storm on the Autobahn and numerous traffic jams during our trip we were welcomed by the famous Pontarlier town gate by sunset. After checking in into the local “Hotel de la Poste” and grabbing a snack in the hotel restaurant (they serve a dish called “Jesus” there, it is a sausage with melted cheese on it, gotta try it when you are there) we checked out what’s going on in Pontarlier by night. Actually we got aware of a live concert in a small bar. But what they presented there wasn’t music, it was “Hardcore Noise”. Imagine your scream when you would have to bath in boiling water, multiply it with 10 and you can imagine how “Hardcore Noise” sounds like. But at least the beers were good…
Absinthe Trip day two
On the next day of our Absinthe trip the Absinthe degustation at the Absinthiades started at 11am and 20 Absinthes were rated. Like the last years the best Absinthes were evaluated by their smell (max. 4 points), color (max. 6 points) and taste (max. 10 points). This year there were two juries, each one sampled 10 Absinthes and rewarded them with the golden, silver and bronze Absinthe spoon. Therefore there were two gold medal winners. The Absinthes were also served at the bar, so if you didn’t participate in the jury you could also make your private degustationwith some glasses of Absinthe for a reasonable price. And of course, some Absinthiana dealers exposed their vintage Absinthe collections.
Here are the pics and results from this years Absinthiades 2005.
