ALANDIA - World of Absinthe

- La Fete de L´Absinthe 2006 in Boveresse -

Much has happened in the Suisse Absinthe region Val-de-Travers, so it was obligatory for us to visit the Absinthe festival in Boveresse! Our journey started from our headquarter in Cologne on 16.06.2006. The festival was on the next day, on 17.06.2006, so we planned to stop by in Pontarlier. This year we wanted to find some evidence of old distillieries like the Edouard Pernod, Legler and Parrot Fils distillery. We already did this in 2004, but this year a friend of us gave us an old map of former Pontarlier, which indicated the former location of the Absinthe distilleries.
On the next day Boveresse was on the schedule. We met there with Claude Alain Bugnon, the Absintheurs from LDF, Oxygenée and Ted Breaux. It was a cool trip and although the festival is not that big, one can have a lot of fun when he meets the right people (It´s greeeen...!). But before we start with the Absinthe experiences, lets give you a short briefing of our experiences.

9.00 am Cologne: Coffee is drank, bags are packed and we are ready to hit the road. But where the hack is our car...! Not there...! The most probable scenarios come into our minds: 1. Were we drunk last night...? A: No - 2. Is it stolen...? A: I hope not - 3. Is it towed away...? A: Well, better than option two. And after a quick phone call with the police it is clear that the friendly guys from the wrecking service took care of our car, fortunately...

10.30 am Cologne: After handing out some Benjamins to the wrecking company, our car belongs once again to us! So start the engines gentleman, we are ready for our 7 hour drive to Boveresse!

18.30 pm Pontarlier: We are finally there. After having a Préssion at the local bar we are starting our Absinthe investigations. Finding the old places of the distilleries is quite difficult, as most of the streets have new names and an urbanization took place in Pontarlier. But at least we finally found the Parrot Fils building. The Edouard Pernod distillery is destroyed and only the Junod, Deniset and Pernod Fils distillery can still be found. Although only very little indicates what happened in these buildings.

21.30 Les Verriéres: After meeting the rest of our crew we headed to Les Verriéres where we stayed for the next two nights. A nice Suisse fondue was eaten and the end of the days was celebrated with a flamed Absinthe Mocca ice.

The next day Boveresse was on the agenda, here are the pics of our Road Trip!

The Road Trip

Handing out the Benjamins...

Engines started and K.I.T.T. says everything is ok, so let´s hit the road!

It ´s always fun to make some real life Playstation racing on the Autobahn

The next stop is Pontarlier, then we head over to Les Verriéres and visit the festival at Boveresse.

Welcome to Pontarlier!

The old map and the Parrot Fils distillery

In Pontarlier we met the other Absintheurs and headed over to Suisse

Welcome to the home of the Green Fairy

Day one ends with an flamed Absinthe Mocca ice...

After a pleasant night surrounded by the sound of Suisse cow bells Boveresse is on the agenda!

The festival

Artisane Absinthe products were sold like Absinthe syrup, Absinthe pasta, sausages, ice and much more

The Val-de-Travers distilleries presented their products and offered a degustation.

Then it started heavily to rain, time for us to get some Absinthes in the tent. The rest of the evening is kept secret ;-)

After some hours of sleep we started with an Absinthe breakfast at Claude Alains distillery.
You always have to fight the hangover with the weapons of the Green Fairy...

Besides Absinthe you can find in Claudes distillery some pictures of the legalization of Absinthe in Suisse.
When Absinthe was legalized in 2005 a little theater was organized. These pictures show the release of the Green Fairy

And after recovering from the night before, it was once again time for us to return to Germany.
Messieurs... C´est l´heure!

Au revoir Val-de-Travers and till the next time!
