This Absinthe comes almost straight from the alambic. The alcohol level is reduced from 85% to 80%. An intense herbal sensation and a thick louche are characteristic of Brute 80.

Eichelberger - Absinthe distillation with tradition:

A great-grandfather of the Eichelberger family, Eduard Heinrich Nötzel, lived from 1800 to 1874 in Danzig. He assumed ownership of the wood wholesale trade business of his father but expanded the business very soon. The advertisement in the old newspaper „Neuesten Wegweiser für Fremde und Einheimische" shows, that he started to offer different spirits and essences, including an „Extracte d`Absinthe“. In his tavern "Zum Elefanten" ("To the Elephant"), the label shows the tavern and the elephant, his specialties were offered. His son, Otto Luis Nötzel, continued the flourishing buisness. Unfortunately he died young and his son was too young to manage the company. Therefore the business was shut down around 1900. Due to the two world wars the history of the family heritage was almost forgotten...

Until in 1997 the Wild family started again with the production of Absinthe in the Eichelberger distillery.

Absinthe Review: Absinthe Eichelberger Brute 80

It's the very first real absinthe I've ever tried, and is still a favourite. Beautiful and thick louche, wonderfully rich aroma and taste. Alcohol is only a carrier here, there isn't a scent of it even when sipped neat, except for some heat. Almost too good to be true..not an absinthe for everyday. I'm looking forward to the 83.2 festival edition.

Excellent! Well they've done it again. I've become a big fan of the Eichelberger absinthes in all their incarnations. This one is no exception. Wonderful aroma, taste, and louche. Not to mention the awesome effect. If you're new to the Ecihelbergers or have tried the other ones, this is a must. Very smooth and even though it's 160 proof, the alcohol is not overpowering as one might expect.Yes, I'll be ordering more of this.
