Un Emile is produced in Pontarlier, France. This small city is located at the French/Swiss border next to the Swiss Val de Travers. In the golden age of Absinthe, back in the 19th century, many Absinthe distilleries were located in Pontarlier, including the Emile Pernot Absinthe distillery. However, this is not to be confused with the famous Pernod Fils distillery. They had their plant in Couvet, Switzerland to avoid the complication of importing the Swiss grown herbs to France.

Alright, I have to get my say in about this one. This has been, so far my favourite Absinthe. I picked this one up a few months after finishing off a bottle of Pernod. This was a long while back, but I have fond memories of it. Well balanced, and slightly sweet, a brown-green colour. I don't know if it is artificially coloured, or whether it was just coloured (spirits from my understanding are clear after distillation, and often there is a colouring step where various herbs are macerated in order to get the green colouring). I recall that the louch wasn't as prominent with this particular absinthe as with some of the others I have tried, but it does louch fairly well... slight brown tones in the louche... hard to explain. Physical effects were the same as any other good absinthe, mellow and pleasant...very relaxing. This is a brand that I would buy again, if it weren't for the fact that I like to try a different brand each time. If you are looking for good quality absinthe without breaking the bank, Un Emile is a great starting point.

Hmm, i had very high expectations about this one. First thing i noticed was the strong smell. Immeditially when i opened the bottle i could smell anise and alcohol and soon the whole kitchen smelled of anise. I gently started pouring water from a fountain over the bright green liquid. I was terrified! The drink did not louche at all! Luckily, i was wrong and the absinthe finally louched, but very slowly and the louche was very greenish and weak. After louching i smelled the drink again, and the scent was indeed very anisy and strong. Then the taste. Very strong, one of the strongest absinthes i have tasted. Also very anisy, and quite simple. I liked it, but definitely not the best. I recommend for old absintheurs who want to add another bottle to their collection.

Great flavor and the louch is great. The effect is intense and enjoyable. I would recommend this Absinthe to anyone. It was my first taste of Absinthe ever and I would buy this one again.

6th bottle tasted the night the order came in and it was my favorite. It tastes of quality. It is exactly what Absinthe ought to be. I was very pleased with this product and the service. The flavor was full and rewarding. This bottle went home with the person who ordered it and I will be ordering a bottle of this for myself next time. It has a traditional flavor that does not deviate from expections and does not need to be improved.

This was the first absinthe I ever tasted, Truly outstanding. Mild, refreshing, and very drinkable. A great introduction to the world of absinthe.

Purchased along with Strong68 and Blue Velvet. On the recommendations of others, this was the first one I tried. Nice, a touch sweet, but a good first experience. Eventually I settled on Strong68 as the best of the three. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other, but my tastes run to the bitters.
