Absinthe Review: Absinthe Maison ALANDIA

I have read many contradictory reviews regarding this absinthe; some like it, some don't. The biggest complaint most often reported is that this absinthe is too bitter. I disagree whole-heartedly. I was a bit apprehensive in trying this absinthe, but in the end, I'm glad I did. This is a truly wonderful absinthe with a very nice "warm and fuzzy" herbal taste. Not too much or too little of anything; very appealing to a mature palate.

This was a great way to pop my absinthe cherry. I find myself licking the side of the bottle after every pour as to not lose a single drop of this delicious drink. Although it does tast and smell of pure alcohol straight, but when the french ritual is started it slowly turns from a green essence to a nice milky white louch. I find it hard not to drink this green fairy as I want to save it for a side by side comparison with my next absinthe order, which is hopefuly very soon. So far I find that a 2 to 1 ratio is best for me.

Very good stuff. Just the right amount of anise flavorings and smooth compared to other absinthes I have tried. I recommend not "louching" the absinthe as it creates a somewhat bitter taste (unless you've never had absinthe before and then try it just for the experience). I also would not recommend drinking it straight as it is 72% ethanol and will burn the f*ck out of your throat. The method I found best is to add one part absinthe and about 3/4 part cool to warm water. This adds just enough water to dilute the drink without causing it to louch (or precipitate). This creates a nice stiff drink with full flavor (about 40% similar to a whiskey). If it louches add less water. I also prefer to drink it warm rather than cold. This is just my opinion but I used to louch absinthe and couldn't stand the taste. Finally, I tried this method and now it's my drink of choice.
