This Absinthe is special. The little herbs floating in the liquid give off their special qualities resulting in a strong, bitter taste. The Absinthe King does not louche, as it contains no anise.

Absinthe Review: Absinthe King of Spirits

This spirit is, by far, one of the most bitter I have tasted. It is wonderful for effect and the intended would be excellent, but the bitterness overpowers everything. After a single taste, the bitterness will persist on your tongue for over 5 minutes. There is no louche (lack of anise), and no amount of water or sugar will decrease the bitterness. If you are going for a single single shot absinthe, this is worth it. An evening relaxing with a good, rounded absinthe? Nowhere close.

The first time I tried this I was shocked by the effect, considering that it was only 10 mg thujone. After a year I tried it and was blown away. Taste wise? It is harsh and could be compared to after shave, IMO. But the effect is worth it. I would rank this one higher than my 35 mg bottles and on par with my 100mg bottle. I have two bottles left 1 is 3, tried a drink amounting to 3 shots last month, years old and 1 is 2 years old; the 2 year old has never been opened. I could only describe the effect as electro-euphoric.

I really liked this! No anis what so ever though. It's not a "deluxe" absinthe, but worth buying if you like bitters.

Seriously, this is the second worst absinthe i have ever tried. Tastes nothing but wormwood. No balance in it at all, it is very bitter. It´s just like the most czech producers think you can make absinthe by drowning seeds in bad vodka. AVOID it by any cost, you´ll be dissappointed.

I liked this very much. Not a typical anise absinthe, but has a very nice herbal bitter flavor. No louche at all, but that's fine. I think there's much more than 10mg thujone in it. I only had 1 mini bottle, and was good for a couple hours. I recommend that it be tried

Mr. "Absinthe is About Effect" giving the final word on this controversial absinthe spirit this fine day. But before I begin just let me say in response to some of the other reviews that drinking absinthe primarily for the effect does NOT mean you are not a true absintheur! What is ANY alcoholic beverage consumed for? The EFFECT, be it the effect of the thujone or the alcohol itself, the principal is the same! So judging-taste-only snobs, please halt this blatant hypocrisy and let us Czech absinthe drinkers be. Also, for the record, I enjoy absinthe from ALL countries, and drink for both the taste AND effect. That said, onto the review! Much like the Staro Green, the 10 mg listed is far too low. I let mine sit for a while to be sure the macarated plant would let loose a little extra thujone before testing. A very medicinal smell, but pleasantly earthy, which is actually a nice change if you ask me. Tasting with a 5:1 ratio and 2 sugars, the taste was quite bitter, probably the most bitter I've tasted, but actually half-decent, although the aftertaste is much worse. I can see where this could have been good, but alas the final product does not reflect this potential. But again, while bad, it's still not Hills/Vision bad by any means, still easily drinkable. And to its credit it did go down remarkably smooth for 70%. The absinthe effect was pretty intense, felt around 22-26 mg depending on how far down the bottle got. The effect this produces is completely the opposite of the other LOR products (though I have yet to compare the Staro Red); a very sedating couch lock that really spaces you out mentally and visually. It reminded me VERY much of the salvia sage liqueur's effects. Lasted over an hour and a half with a single glass, so good effect length as well, but I still prefer an uplifting, creative effect. Thus far, things aren't looking too bad until you see the price...yikes. As I said, the effect is VERY similar to salvia sage liqueur, which is about a quarter of the price! In addition salvia is smoother, has a lower alcohol content, and comes in an awesome corked bottle with nearly equal effects in terms of the TYPE of effects as well as potency. So again, I simply cannot suggest this. Probably worth it to try once, as you may find you have a thing for the earthy taste and rapidly-creeping/lingering effects, but for most people I can't see them buying it again...
