This is a good and somewhat different absinthe. Very nice aroma. I was a bit skeptical of the description where it said it has a slight tobacco flavor to it. But to my surprise it really does, and in a good way. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the louche, which is very weak and kind of weak and disappointing. If you want to try something different, this is it.
This is the newest addition to the absinthe world from master craftsman Martin Zufanek. It is a cousin to the now legendary L'Ancienne. Made with a wine alcohol base that has been aged for 3 years, this is close to perfection. Wonderful aroma, great louche, and a rich, full bodied, but not heavy, flavor. Yes, it''s pricey, but it's worth it. I hope there are still some bottles left when I have more money :)
Oliver Matter is one of the top Swiss distillers and this is a good one. Nice louche and aroma but what really stands out is the unique flavor. There are notes of coriander, vanilla and calamus root. But what really comes through is a sweet fruitiness. Not a citrus fruit, but fruit nonetheless. This is different and very tasty.
OMB !! This is very fine. I just had to order several more bottles to put aside for much, much later. Thelemites are advised to go ahead and spend the extra for an extra bottle for Ceremonial purposes, and of course for Prince of Jerusalem Initiations. "All above is overthrown, for the love of Babalon."
In a word, superb!. Master artisan absinthe producers Martin Zufanek and Stefano Rossoni have done it yet again with this years\' batch of the highly acclaimed L\'Ancienne. Their goal was to produce a modern absinthe that has the look, aroma, and flavor of a pre-ban absinthe. From the golden color to the cognac, leather, and old book aroma, and the wonderfully indescribable flavor, they have succeeded. If you have ever wanted to try a pre-ban absinthe but couldn\'t afford the $150 or so per drink price, then this is for you. Or if you just appreciate a damn fine drink.
