It is an alcohol made out of several herbs like melissa, green anise, fennel and of course wormwood. Wormwood is the special ingredient of Absinthe. It gives the drink its special and mystical appeareance and effect. It is said, that poets and writers of the 19th century drank this drink, as it created a physical and mental activation which lead to enhanced creativity. The Glass for Absinthe

You need an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon and water and sugar. The Absinthe glass has a special look. It is larger than a normal water glass and often has a reservoir integrated, to measure the correct amount of Absinthe. Once you pour Absinthe out of the bottle into the glass the reservoir gets filled, and when it reaches the top level you don´t have to add more water. Famous Absinthe glasses are the Reservoirs, the Brouilles and the East glasses. Latter don´t have a reservoir, but a very typical design. Brouilles have as well a glass lid, which is the perfect accessory to create the perfect louche. All of them should be handblown, to avoid an ugly glass scar. We recommend to buy for example ALANDIA glassware, they are manufactured in Spain, from a glass producer, who uses the same molds he used back in the 19th century. Also the production methods are still the same, all glasses are mouthblown and hand cut. Our favorite is the ALANDIA Brouille glass, as it has a very nice design and is very usable because of the glass lid.
