Thomas Henry Tonic Water from Germany

6:49 pm in Gin, Tonic Water by ALANDIA

An exclusive selection of Tonic Water is available at ALANDIA

Additionally to Absinthe you can buy some premium Gin in the ALANDIA online store. Gin is a common spirit in a lot of cocktails, but the most famous combination is without a doubt Gin & Tonic. Therefore we decided to offer you a selection of premium Tonic Waters as well. With the recent Gin boom a lot of smaller Tonic producers appeared on the market as well. Therefore you are not forced anymore to drink your favorite Gin with Schweppes Tonic. Nevertheless our aim is not to offer you all Tonics that are available on the market. Our aim is to offer you Tonic Waters, that differ from their taste to broaden your Tonic Water horizon. We hope that it will support you in finding your favorite mixer for your favorite Gins.

Right now we concentrate on two brands. Gents Tonic Water from Switzerland and Thomas Henry Tonic Water from Germany. These Tonics are completely different from their taste. Gents is a sweeter Tonic with less bitterness. The chinin is sourced from gentiane not the fevertree. Thomas Henry in comparison is more of a “Schweppes Tonic”. It is much more bitter and the right Tonic Water for traditionalists who like a “dry” taste. Nevertheles, you should try your favorite Gin with both Tonics. You will be surprised how different your Gin and Tonic will taste! Both Tonic waters have a higher carbonation. In our opinion this is always something positive, as your Gin & Tonic remains fresh and sparkling for a longer time.

Did you know…?

Thomas Henry (*1734) was an English apothecary and chemist. In addition to his medical work he also invented the conservation of drinking water by adding sodium carbonate. Amongst others, this invention was of great benefit for the British Navy, as from now on seamen could be supplied with fresh water on long seafarings (and not only with rum..). Thereby Thomas Henry was one of the first producers of soda water – next to the German Johan Jacob Schweppe, who patented his method in 1783 and distributed his products as well in London in 1792 under the name “Schweppes”. But it remains unclear to us, why the manufacturers of Thomas Henry Tonic Water have used the portrait of Thomas´ son, William Henry, for the label and not Thomas Henrys´

Ferdinands Saar Dry Gin with wine infusion

1:31 pm in Gin by ALANDIA

You might think, Gin and wine? Is that a typo? No, it is not, it is actually a new creative Gin! Ferdinands Saar Dry Gin comes from the famous German wine region “Saar”, and therefore it makes sense, that also a portion/infusion of wine is part of this Gin. Actually the total amount is only 1-5% of the final product, but that is enough to give this Gin a fruity note. Additionally 30 other botanicals are used for distillation, including lavender, chamomile and quince.  The result is a floral Gin that has his very own character. You can buy Ferdinands Saar Dry Gin now in the Gin section at ALANDIA. Cheers!

Monkey 47 Sloe Gin 2013 Edition has arrived

7:23 pm in Gin by ALANDIA

Dear Gin Lovers!

we received new stock of the 2013 edition of Monkey 47 Sloe Gin. The bottles will be sold fast, that´s pretty sure, so better order early to reserve yourself a bottle. Only one time in the year this special Gin is produced. It is very common, that the price for a bottle of Monkey 47 Sloe Gin increases rapidly, as soon as the first supply is sold…

How do you drink Sloe Gin? You sip it on or without ice or mix it with champagne. Actually we prefer to drink sloe gin without ice, as the flavors of the spirit develop better, when the spirit is drank at room temperature. Enjoy!

ALANDIA´s first Gin: Six Ravens London Dry Gin

10:25 am in ALANDIA, Gin by ALANDIA

Gin and ALANDIA? It´s not green and it is not Absinthe?

That´s right, but out of a daily life problem, a new product has evolved! Absinthe, as you might have experienced as well, is unfortunately not available in every bar. Therefore you have to have some substitutes in mind when you are out for a drink. In our case, the substitute is Gin & Tonic, a historical drink with sytle and slightly bitter, herbal taste. As Gin is a distilled spirits made out of various herbs and spices, similar to Absinthe, we had the idea of creating our own Gin, the first ALANDIA Gin. It took us over a year and many prototypes to finalize the recipe but now the product is bottled and available for sale: Six Ravens London Dry Gin! We really would be happy when you give our Premium Gin Six Ravens a try. We would be so happy, that we add this month to every bottle one exclusive lead-crystal Gin & Tonic Glass for free! The perfect equipment for a perfect Gin & Tonic

ALANDIA´s first Gin: Six Ravens London Dry Gin! (+ Free lead-crystal Gin & Tonic Glass)

Six Ravens Gin

But we don´t forget our roots. Absinthe is still our flagship product! And like every month, we have as well this month an Absinthe of the Month: Heritage Verte. It´s intensive herbal bouquet make this Absinthe one of our very favorites. It´s color, aroma, louche and taste is intense, it´s a real absinthe, not a water downed spirit. The wine alcohol base of Heritage Verte make it as well special. Cognac like notes are present, which remind of pre-ban absinthes. As you need premium sugar cubes for preparing an Absinthe the traditional way, we add this month to every bottle one free bag of Absinthe Sugar Cubes!

Absinthe of the Month: Heritage Verte + Free Absinthe Sugar Cubes!

Six Ravens London Dry Gin

4:24 pm in Gin by ALANDIA

Six Ravens London Dry Gin is ALANDIA´s first Gin. It took us over a year to develop this premium London Dry Gin… Now we proudly present Six Ravens London Dry Gin! Before we get too much into detail, we will shortly describe the history of “Gin”.

History of Gin:

Gin is a distilled spirit which derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries. The Dutch doctor François de la Boe is credited with the invention of this famous spirit. He distilled juniper berries as an herbal medicine and called it genever, the dutch word for juniper berries. English soliders, who were fighting with the Dutch against the Spanish in the Eighty Years’ War, brought the drink to Britain and called it “Gin”. The spirit became highly popular and was also heavily consumed in tropical British colonies. Gin was used to mask the bitter flavour of quinine, which was the only effective anti-malarial compound during this time. Quinine was dissolved in carbonated water to form tonic water; the resulting mix became the origin of today’s famous Gin & Tonic combination!

To celebrate the launch of Six Ravens London Dry Gin, ALANDIA´s first Gin, we have created this very special “Welcome Offer”. You will get one exclusive Gin & Tonic glass with every bottle for free. The glass itself is made out of high quality lead-crystal and its design is eyecatching. The perfect glass to enjoy your Gin & Tonic.
You might ask yourself why we have called this Gin Six Ravens? Well there´s an interesting story behind it. Read more about the history and recipe of Six Ravens London Dry Gin in the following lines.

ALANDIA´s first Gin: Six Ravens London Dry Gin

Gin and ALANDIA? It´s not green and it is not Absinthe? That´s right, therefore let us explain, why we have come up with the idea of making a Gin.

Absinthe, as you might have experienced as well, is unfortunately not available in every bar. Therefore you have to have some substitutes in mind when you are out for a drink. In our case, the substitute was (and still is..) Gin & Tonic, a historical drink with sytle and a pleasant slightly bitter, herbal taste. Gin is a distilled spirits made out of various herbs and spices. Therefore producing a Gin is somehow related to Absinthe production.  The idea was born, let´s make the first ALANDIA Gin! It took us over a year and many prototypes to finalize the recipe but now the product is bottled and available for sale: Six Ravens London Dry Gin!

In accordance with the London Dry Gin tradition, Six Ravens Gin is exclusively obtained from distilling selected botanicals, such as juniper berries and ginger. No added sweetening, nor colorants, nor any other ingredients (other than water) are added to the distillate. Six Ravens Gin has an increased alcohol percentage of 46% to preserve its full bodied flavor profile, even when mixed with your favorite tonic water. It is the perfect Gin for a premium Gin Tonic (and that was what we were aiming for ;-) ).

We really would be happy when you give our Premium Gin Six Ravens London Dry Gin a try. So happy, that we add to every bottle one very exclusive lead-crystal Gin & Tonic glass for free!
