Absente is not only an Absinthe brand, it is also a commonly used spelling of the word "Absinthe". To clarify this, Absinthe is the french writing of the word, Absinth the german one, Absint the swedish one and some people write Absynthe or Absynt which has as well some historical roots, as it derives from latin/greek spelling. Absente is a liquor which is sold in the USA. Before the legalization in the year 2008 an Absente product was available in the USA, that contained southern wormwood instead of artemisia absinthium. Now, after Absinthe was legalized in the USA, Absente offers a brand called Grande Absinthe Originale. From our tests we can not recommend this brand, as it has only a weak louche and the taste is not how we want an Absinthe to be. It has too little complexity. We also doubt that there is much artemisia absinthium in Absente. Maybe we are wrong, but an authentic Absinthe tastes different compared to Absente. So when you are looking for an authentic Absinthe, buy something else than Absente. This is our personal point of view. The bottle looks nice though, but in the end the content counts. An Absente we can recommend is Absente Bitter, which is only sold in the EU. It has more wormwood in its recipe, that is definitely detectable. Absente Bitter claims to have 35mg thujon, this can be true.
